Simplicity In Logo Design

There are many parallel trends in logo design, and one of the most popular styles is minimalism, which has been widely occurring in the last years. It seems to be a welcome alternative to overwhelming logos and unnecessarily cluttered websites, but it is also true that sometimes minimalism is irrelevant.

Minimalism must have a balance between utility and simplicity. It’s not about thoughtlessly cutting down web design elements or eliminating them altogether, it’s about simplifying web pages to make them more valuable. It’s a training in continence and good taste. The mission is to help users focus on what’s important and succeed more efficiently, with as little effort as possible. It is based on the idea of “less is more”. However, it is easy to misunderstand the idea behind minimalism and creating things that simply do not have sense.

An attractive logo doesn’t always have to be complicated. Instead of using pre-designed templates, a minimal logo design starts with a blank sheet and only adds what’s useful. Color, layout, white space, graphics & typography all play an important role in minimalism. It is essential to use the right elements properly. In minimalist design, color choice is critical and the number of colors used, should be kept to a minimum. Black, grey and white are the most convincing colors and allow for a secondary color to have a greater impact. All colors are appropriate if they are used correctly, and using contrasts is the most effective. Minimalist designs mostly features monochromatic logos which gives it a more striking character. Others feature a colored background and give the design a super clean look by leaving the center in white. By giving a valuable white space between elements, we can control the information that it surrounds. The greater the empty space, the more power an object within it gains. Graphics and typography should be strategic too

Minimalsim is trendy and elegant, and it is one of the best choices to use in logo design. Why? First of all, because it is easy to remember. The simpler a logo is, the more likely someone will remember it later, which is at utmost importance for the company or business behind the logo. Customers should not forget the logo and also the service they can associate it with. Secondly, it has to be easily apprehensible. The more minimalistic a logo is, the easier it is to take in. Customers should be able to absorb it in a glance, because we tend to pay attention to logos for a second.

However, minimalism is not always the best choice. There are some cases when a colorful, vivid and hectic design is more effective. Some companies simply do not fit with minimalism, for example a theme park would not choose a minimalist logo. There is another potential problem in connection with minimalist design: it can reflect sheer laziness, since some designers simply do not trouble working hard. If your logo look empty, boring or shallow, it has nothing to do with minimalism. Minimalism has to serve a purpose, and it has to be effective. If your audience doesn’t understand what you are trying to convey with your simple design, then there is no point in using it. Being simple is not always effective neither artistic. Customers have to get an idea about the nature of the company, some basic information and also a special feeling or impression, and these are the main principles that every design should follow.
